SWMU 01
Camp Garcia Landfill
1954 to 1978
An unlined landfill in which food waste, waste paper, scrap metal, and yard waste from both Camp Garcia and the Inner Range of the AFWTF were disposed of.  When operation of the landfill ceased in 1978, a soil cap was installed.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 5 groundwater and 50 surface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 02
Fuels Off-Loading Site
1953 to 1979
The former location of four aboveground storage tanks, which were used to store diesel fuel, unleaded gasoline, and aviation fuel.  Each time the tanks were refilled, fuel was discharged into the ocean as well as onto the soil along the shoreline. 
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 12 surface soil samples and 2 subsurface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 04
Waste Areas of Building 303
1970s to 1994
An area where spent batteries were accumulated, a basin that collected hydraulic oil, a basin that contained solvents used to clean and degrease parts, and a storage area for supplies used to clean up spills in Building 303.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 12 surface soil samples and 1 subsurface soil sample were collected.
SWMU 05
Spent Battery Accumulation Area
1962 to 1994
Batteries and battery acid were stored on a gravel driveway. The acid from these batteries was typically emptied into plastic containers and shipped off the island.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 4 surface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 06
Waste Oil and Paint Accumulation Area
1970s to 1994
This area was used to store waste oil and paint. The waste oil was stored in 210-L (55-gal) drums and the paint was stored in smaller containers.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 10 surface soil samples were collected from SWMUs 6 and 7.
SWMU 07
Waste Oil Accumulation Area
1970s to 1994
A storage area for waste oil from the maintenance of military personnel vechicles.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 10 surface soil samples were collected from SWMUs 6 and 7.
SWMU 08
Waste Oil Accumulation Area
1962 to 1994
Waste lubricants and oils were collected in drums, which were stored on bare soil prior to being shipped off the island.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 4 surface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 10
Sewage Treatment Lagoons
1970s to 1985
From 1962 to 1974, four unlined lagoons were used for water treatment.  The effluent from two of the lagoons was chlorinated and discharged to the ocean.  In 1974, the treatment lagoon system was lined and modified so that effluent was no longer discharged into the ocean. 
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 20 surface soil samples, 4 subsurface soil samples, and 5 groundwater samples were collected.
SWMU 12
Solid Waste Collection Unit Area
1962 to 1994
This area was a solid waste storage and transfer area.  Garbage was collected in wooden boxes, wooden trailers, metal Dumpsters, and cans.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 5 surface soil samples were collected.
AOC A
Diesel Fuel Fill Pipe Area
1978 to 2003
This area contained a fill pipe for an underground storage tank (UST). In 1997, the UST, the fill pipe, and surrounding soil were excavated and removed for dispoal.  The UST was replaced with a new UST.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 10 subsurface soil samples were collected.

Rock Quarry
Unknown to present
This site is used by the Navy to obtain gravel for the construction of roads and other projects.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 5 surface soil samples were collected.
AOC G
Pump Station and Chlorination Building at Sewage Lagoons
1950s to 1978
A building that housed a pump station and chlorination equipment used for chlorination of lagoon effluent.
During a Phase I RFI (CH2M HILL 2003a), 5 surface soil samples were collected.

Inactive Waste Explosive OB/OD Area
1965s to 1985
Thermal destruction of waste munitions, fuels or propellants took place in the open burn area.  
During a Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 8 groundwater, 12 surface soil, and 12 subsurface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 5
IRFNA/MAF-4 Disposal Site
One event in 1975
Approximately 3,200 kg (7,000 pounds) of fuel were emptied into a ditch near a ravine, which is the probable recharge area for a naturally occurring spring.
During a Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 4 surface soil and 4 subsurface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 6
Mangrove Disposal Site
1960s to 1970s
Trash disposed of at this site includes lubricants, oil, solvents, paints, rubble, and scrap metal.  Approximately 611 m3 (800 cy) of material was disposed in this area.
During a Phase I PA/SI and RI (CH2M HILL 2000, 2003b), 10 groundwater, 12 surface water, 19 sediment, 23 surface soil, and 4 subsurface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 7
Quebrada Disposal Site
1960s to 1970s
The Navy disposed of old tires, sheet metal, empty containers such as drums, cans and bottles, used batteries, and construction rubble in this area.
During a Phase I PA/SI and RI (CH2M HILL 2000, 2003b), 11 groundwater, 3 sediment, 21 surface soil, and 11 subsurface soil samples were collected
SWMU 10
Waste Paint and Solvents Disposal Site
1970s to 1990
An area of soil outside the Paint Locker, Building 4001, where waste paints and solvents were spilled. 
During a Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000) 10 surface soil and 10 subsurface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 14
Wash Rack
1970s to present
The area was used primarily for cleaning Navy vehicles. Occasionally degreasing solvents have been used to facilitate the cleaning. Runoff water was discharged to a ditch, which eventually discharged to the Atlantic Ocean.
During a Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 2 groundwater, 14 surface soil, and 14 subsurface soil samples were collected.
SWMU 15
Waste Transportation Vehicle
Unknown
A Navy truck that contained numerous drums of a waste labeled as caustic.  Some of the drums have been determined to contain components of napalm.  The truck contained 210-L (55-gal) metal drums and overpack drums, suggesting that the material inside may have at one point leaked from the drums.
During a Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 1 groundwater and 16 surface soil samples were collected.

Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Disposal Ground
1983 to present
This WWTP, which is still in operation, is a secondary treatment plant.  Effluent from the WWTP is discharged to a lagoon system consisting of four evaporation/percolation cells, which have no discharge point.  According to the Environmental Baseline Survey report, it is suspected that hazardous waste may have been discharged to the WWTP in the past.
During a Phase II PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 4 surface soil samples were collected.

Drainage Ditch in the Vicinity of Transportation Shop Area
Unknown
Two ditches near the transportation shop collect stormwater runoff during rain events and ultimately drain to the ocean. An oily sheen was observed in one of the ditches during a 1988 site inspection. It is unknown whether hazardous constituents have been routinely discharged to the ditch.  Also located in this area is a septic tank that collects the wastewater from the sink inside the transportation shop.
During a Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 1 groundwater, 15 surface soil samples, 20 subsurface samples, and 2 sediment samples were collected.

UST Site 2016
1970 to 1999
The former location of a 2,100-L (550-gal) steel waste oil UST that was used to store waste oil generated from vehicle maintenance activities that take place in Building 2016.
During a site characterization and Phase I PA/SI (CH2M HILL 1999, 2000), 8 groundwater and 5 subsurface samples were collected.

Underground Injection Control (UIC) Septic System Site
Unknown To 1997
A UIC septic tank system with 5,700-L (1,500-gal) capacity.
During a PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 5 groundwater and 20 subsurface samples were collected.

Abandoned Power Plant
1941 to 1980s
Prior to Navy activities, the building was a power plant. Aboveground fuel storage tanks (ASTs) associated with the plant were located on the western side of the building.  From the 1960s to the 1980s, the building was used for fire-training operations by igniting diesel fuel over rubber tires inside the building to simulate a structure fire.
During an RI and Phase I and II PA/SIs (CH2M HILL 2000, 2003b), 15 groundwater, 65 surface soil, and 55 subsurface soil samples were collected.

Asphalt Plant
1960s to 1988
The AOC includes two concrete-paved containment areas and an area formerly containing two diesel fuel ASTs. Both containment areas have sump pumps. Earlier site visits recorded moderate quantities of wet or dry asphalt emulsion within the containment areas. A baseline study estimated that 0.6 ha (1.5 acres) of the site were potentially contaminated.
During a Phase II PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2002a), 26 surface soil and 26 subsurface soil samples were collected.

Former Operations Area Disposal Site
1965 to 1973
The area was used as a solid waste disposal site for construction activities.  After 1973, the waste was removed from the site and placed in an off-base municipal landfill.  No records were kept as to what type of waste was deposited here.
During a Phase I PA/SI, Phase II PA/SI, and RI (CH2M HILL 2000a, 2002, 2003b), 10 surface soil, 5 subsurface soil, 8 surface water, 8 sediment, and 13 groundwater samples were collected.

Water Well
1941 to 1979
It was used as a potable water supply well. 
During a Phase II PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 5 groundwater samples were collected.
AOC L
Abandoned Septic Vault
1940s to Unknown
A 7.5-m by 12-m (25-ft by 40-ft) concrete vault used for the treatment and disposal of installation sewage. The site may have been used for disposal of hazardous waste at a later date. 
During a Phase II PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 4 surface soil and 4 subsurface soil samples were collected.
AOC R
Former Operations and Staging Area
1960s to 1971
This was the main operations area for NASD. It consisted of public works buildings, a parking area, and a vehicle maintenance shop, where materials like fuel and oil were probably used and stored.
During a Phase II PA/SI (CH2M HILL 2000), 33 surface soil samples were collected.
