NOAA Scripts & Extensions

NOAA Office of Response and Restoration ARD

Hotlink pdf’s ArcView 3.x Script

This script facilitates hot-linking pdf documents from within ArcView 3.x.  The script checks for versions of Adobe 4.x, 5.x and 6.x both Acrobat and Reader.

Script Import/Export Tools 3.x Extension
This extension facilitates importing and exporting multiple scripts from projects.  Multiple scripts are exported to a common folder preserving the script name, substituting periods with underscore and appending .ave extension.  The multiple import function preserves the scripts name, strips the .ave extension, and compiles the scripts.  This can be especially useful in archiving development steps, or in projects that are used to develop avx’s (extensions).

Pick Grid Value ArcView 3.x Script
This script uses a point theme to pick a cell value from a coincident grid theme and add that value to a field in the point theme’s attribute table.

Create Lines From Points ArcView 3.x Script
This script creates a line drawn between two (or more) points within a common record and saves a polyline shapefile.  Useful for representing beach seine or fish trawl efforts and for creating centroids from the lines.

NOAA Office of Response and Restoration Emergency Response Division (ERD)

GNOME ArcView 3.x Extension
The General NOAA Oil Modeling Environment (GNOME) trajectory software predicts how wind, currents, and other processes might move and spread oil spilled on the water. The ArcView extension can be used to view your GNOME trajectories in ArcView.
ALOHA ArcView 3.x Import Extension
Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres (ALOHA) is a computer program that uses information you provide it, along with physical property data from its extensive chemical library, to predict how a hazardous gas cloud might disperse in the atmosphere after an accidental chemical release. The ArcView 3.x extension can be used to import an ALOHA footprint into ArcView 3.x.
ALOHA ArcMap 8.x and 9.x Import Tool
Areal Locations of Hazardous Atmospheres (ALOHA) is a computer program that uses information you provide it, along with physical property data from its extensive chemical library, to predict how a hazardous gas cloud might disperse in the atmosphere after an accidental chemical release. The ArcMap tool can be used to enable the import of ALOHA footprint files into ArcMap 8.x or 9.x.

NOAA Coastal Services Center

Chartviewer
An extension for ArcView that allows viewing of digital charts.
Nautical Chart Reprojection Tool

A companion tool to Chartviewer.

Viewing and Using Metadata

The Coastal Services Center Metadata Collector Extension Tool that allows creation of metadata as either a text file (.met) or an html file.

Electronic Navigation Chart (ENC®) Data Handler for ArcView

The NOAA Coastal Services Center, in partnership with the NOAA Office of Coast Survey, developed an ArcView® extension called the NOAA ENC Data Handler that allows the Office of Coast Survey’s Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) suite to be used in the ESRI® ArcView 3.x software environment.

NOAA Office of Coast Survey

Electronic Navigation Chart (ENC®) Data

Vector-based digital file containing marine features suitable for marine navigation. NOAA ENC®s can be used in geographic information systems (GIS) as base map data.

GIS Tools from Other Resources

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency FIELDS Program

Field Environmental Decision Support Tools (FIELDS)
The FIELDS Team has developed a set of tools that integrate the power of geographic information systems (GIS), imaging software, global positioning system (GPS), and in-field sampling and analysis technology. The FIELDS tools are a collection of ArcView extensions and a stand-alone 2D/3D software (F/S Plus) that utilize published methodology for each step in the characterization process. The FIELDS software forms the foundation for a system that provides data analysis and interpretation for environmental decision-making. The results allow project managers to evaluate the extent of contamination and hot spot sizes, estimate health risks, prioritize site goals, and weigh potential actions. Users include USEPA Regions, NOAA’s coastal restoration scientists, State and Tribal agencies, as well as the private and academic community.
FIELDS Sample Design Tool
The Sample Design extension is part of the USEPA FIELDS tools. This tool allows you to create and implement several types of sampling plans, including Judgmental, Random, Systematic, and Linear.
FIELDS Dupe Checker
The Duplicate Processing extension is part of the USEPA FIELDS tools. This extension provides the user with several ways to process co-located (duplicate) data prior to running analyses. The options are to highlight duplicate data in the ArcView table or to create a derivative point shapefile containing original data and the calculated mean, minimum, maximum, median or most recent by date for the co-located samples.

XTools for ArcGIS by Data East, LLC
XTools 9.x Pro extension for ArcGIS desktop end-users is the next generation of XTools for ArcGIS, one of the most popular ArcGIS desktop extensions. Originally developed as a set of useful vector spatial analysis, shape conversion and table management tools for ArcView GIS 3.x XTools extension was then converted to ESRI ArcGIS 8.x environment and now is re-designed, enhanced and extended as XTools Pro to get to the newer level of functionality and performance.

Image Catalog 2 Polygon extension (3.x)
This will take an image catalog and make a polygon theme for each image extent in the catalog with the original fields intact. Based off work from Andrew Williams and other kind avenue scripters. Trent Hare, USGS

View_Con.ave
Converts the active Line, Polyline, and Polygon Feature theme into Multipoint feature theme. Useful for e.g. interpolating a surface from a contour map. Converts only selected records, if there are any. Else all records will be converted. Creator: Heiko Apel, Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany. email: h.apel@tu-bs.de

EZ Profiler 9.x for ArcGIS

Image Toggler for ArcView 3.x
The Image Toggler extension allows the user to click or drag a rectangle in the View window to turn images off and on (rather than search down the Table of Contents for filenames). This extension creates a polygon theme representing the extents of all the selected images.Thereafter, when this polygon theme is active, a Tool on the Tool bar allows the user to conveniently sweep across the view and turn offimages that are on, and turn on images that are off. Use this tool like the select tool, except that it toggles the images off and on. Author: John Foster jsfoster_dev@yahoo.com
