Querying a Database

Running a Query

Start the Query Manager application.  The first window should display the version of Query Manager and a Continue button.

Click the Continue button to get to the main Query Manager dialog.

General Steps to Run a Query

The following are general instructions for running a query:

  1. The Watershed Database that you want to query should be displayed in the Watershed field.  If the watershed that you want to query is not shown in the Watershed field, click the drop-down arrow to select one of the databases that is available in the qm25win directory. If you have databases that are located in another directory, select Open from the File menu, which brings up the Select Directory dialog.  Navigate to the folder that contains the database and click the Select button.  The Watershed name should show up in the Watershed field.
  2. Choose a Query Group from the Query Group field.
  3. Choose a Query from the Query field.
  4. Click the Run Query button. Make selections and decisions as needed to complete building the query.  After clicking the Finish button, Query Manager will display a single table of results to browse, map directly in MARPLOT or save to a spreadsheet for use in a GIS, spreadsheet software or statistical package.

Step-by-Step Query Examples

The following examples provide a detailed guide to the types of choices about contaminants, contaminant groups, sediment quality guidelines, toxicological benchmarks and other parameters that Query Manager presents.  The examples do not cover all possibilities, but should provide the user with a basic outline of the mechanics of running a query.
