ARD Query Manager & MARPLOT Tools

Interacting with Query Manager

The following menus are found in MARPLOT under the Sharing menu.  They all deal with interactions between Query Manager and MARPLOT.

Get Info

  1. To view the tabular data for selected locations, use the arrow tool to select locations in MARPLOT (drag a rectangle or use SHIFT+Click to select stations).
  2. If you choose an individual location, proceed to the next step.  If you drag around several locations, you must check the Query Manager query layer in the Select on Layers… dialog and click the Select button.  When the locations are selected (there will be handles at the corners), continue to the next step
  3. Select Sharing > Query Manager > Get Info, to return to Query Manager
  4. The text (SELECTED) will be appended to the browse window title which indicates that only selected records are being shown. Note that this operation requires more time when large numbers of objects have been selected.  To view all records within Query Manager, select Query > Browse All.
  5. To return to Query Manager from MARPLOT, select Sharing > Query Manager > Go to Query Manager.

Note: Query Manager objects are plotted on temporary layers in MARPLOT. This means that all objects on these layers are deleted when you exit MARPLOT. If you wish to retain any of these objects, move them to another layer (using MARPLOT's Objects menu) before quitting either MARPLOT or Query Manager. If you quit from MARPLOT while Query Manager is running, empty layers (without objects) will be left over. Therefore, you should quit Query Manager first, so that these temporary layers are deleted along with their objects.

Creating Stations List

Creating a station list allows the user to easily create a subset of a watershed's stations for subsequent queries.

  1. To create a station list, build the All Data Types: Station Locations by Study query in Query Manager.
  2. Display these stations in MARPLOT using Query Manager's MARPLOT > Show All on Map menu option, as described in the Querying a database section.
  3. After the stations are displayed in MARPLOT, use the arrow tool to select stations to be included in the station list (drag a rectangle or use SHIFT+Click to select stations). Follow the 2nd step in the Get Info instructions above for selecting stations in MARPLOT
  4. Next, in MARPLOT select Sharing > Query Manager > Create Station Group to return to Query Manager. When you click on the displayed table, you will be prompted to save the station list. Leave the station list in the default directory ([dataset...]\.._SList). To use a Station List to query against, in Query Manager select Tools > Station Lists… and then select the specific station list that you have saved.

Go to Query Manager

The Go to Query Manager function allows the user to return to the Query Manager program while using the MARPLOT program.  This option can be found under Sharing > Query Manager.  Selecting Go to Query Manager or holding Ctrl-J automatically returns you to the Query Manager window.
